The Department of Transportation (CT DOT) has tree work planned along both directions of I-84 in Newtown, weekday evenings and overnight hours through the end of the month.

The state department says the work will begin Monday, June 12, and conclude Friday, June 30. All work is scheduled to be performed between 7 pm and 5 am.

The project consists of the removal of trees from log mile 15.09 to 11.69. State Representative Mitch Bolinsky, who issued an email blast with the news, said, “In ‘non-DOT-speak,’ this area falls between Exits 9 and 10 East and Westbound.

“My office has been advised by DOT that this stretch of highway has been the scene of several recent tree failures, including a tractor-trailer impact,” Bolinsky further noted. “This project reestablishes ‘clear zones’ and removes hazardous trees.”

The state rep has also been advised, he said, that the area in question has adequate setbacks and should have no effect on residential homeowners.

Motorists can expect delays and lane closures. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone.

The schedule may vary due to weather-related work conditions.
