Tractor Trailer Accident Closes Church Hill Road

Newtown's emergency services responded to a tandem tractor trailer accident at the exit 10 westbound ramp that closed both the interstate exit and Church Hill Road in the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning.

The two trailers of the vehicle blocked traffic on the exit ramp and Church Hill Road, and the jackknifed cab of the truck went down an embankment on the south side of Church Hill Road. The driver of the Roadway Express tractor trailer suffered minor injuries and was taken to Danbury Hospital by the Newtown Ambulance.

The truck also took down the traffic signals at the intersection and a utility pole. Two other utility poles were damaged. CL&P and state highway crews were called to the scene to make repairs. Police and Sandy Hook Fire and Rescue closed the road to traffic.

Three heavy duty tow trucks from Hilario's Truck Center in Hawleyville worked for several hours through the morning commuter rush clearing the wreckage.
