NEW YORK CITY — The debonair duo Nathaniel “Nat” Motte and Sean Foreman of the band 3OH!3 have teamed up with the creators of Emo Nite to celebrate the tenth anniversary of their album Want with a nationwide house party tour.

The jollification will make a local stop at Irving Plaza in New York on Tuesday, November 27, and include opening act Lil Aaron.

Mr Motte spoke with The Newtown Bee earlier this month to let fans know more about the album’s milestone anniversary, what they can look forward to with this unique tour experience, and why everyone who attends should bring their dancing shoes.

When 3OH!3 recorded its second studio album, Want, in 2008, neither Mr Motte nor Mr Foreman could have predicted the type of enthusiasm fans would have for their cheeky tracks like “I’m Not Your Boyfriend Baby” and their breakout hit turned triple-platinum single “Don’t Trust Me.”

“It’s been a pretty amazing ride,” Mr Motte said looking back on the last decade. “Music was a hobby for us, and… we were just excited to make this record and put it out on any format and label.”

He said he remembers thinking it would be great to have his friends hear the songs, but he never would have guessed there would soon be people from all around the world discovering their music.

Now, all these years later, fans across the country get to hear the album played live — in its entirety — at its anniversary tour.

“There’s a song called ‘Photofinnish’ [on Want] that I don’t know if we’ve ever performed, so it’s been fun to relearn these songs,” Mr Motte said.

In addition to the 40-minute set playing Want front to back, Mr Motte says there is a second 3OH!3 set at the end of the night where they play hits off their other releases.

“It’s going great so far,” Mr Motte said five shows into the Want House Party Tour. “It’s really taking shape show-by-show, and it’s just been building and building momentum.”

The atmosphere, he says, is definitely a “house party mentality” complete with a couch on stage that members of the crowd are welcome to go up and sit on.

“I’m very proud of the fact that our central theme with everything we do — whether in our music videos, songwriting, recording, or especially our live shows — is to make things that are fun and inclusive and to bring people in,” he explained.

That welcoming mindset is exactly why the band decided to join forces with Emo Nite for this tour.

Friends Morgan Freed, Babs Szabo, and T.J. Petracca created the underground cultural phenomenon that is Emo Nite three years ago in Los Angeles. Since then, they have helped unite thousands of people who share a love for the emo genre and early 2000-pop punk era of music by giving them a place to go and sing their hearts out to their favorite songs.

“It was a very organic and very logical partnership,” Mr Motte said about 3OH!3’s decision to tour with Emo Nite. “They are about making people feel included and breaking that arbitrary wall between artists and fans.”

He encourages fans who come out to the tour to sing, dance, and enjoy themselves knowing there is no judgement.

“There’s nothing better than to see a bunch of people smiling at a concert and singing every word. That’s the most powerful thing we can do,” Mr Motte said. “To celebrate [the anniversary] with people that allow us to do what we do is a really magical thing.”
