    "ALL CHILDREN ARE SAFE," was both a direct message and the overarching theme of an extensive memo sent to parents late last week by Interim School Superintendent Dr. John Reed. The letter was also posted on social networks and provided to The Newtown Bee on August 24. After welcoming remarks and revealing his own excitement as the new school year begins, Dr. Reed quickly moves into several major points - all involving the safety of students.

  • Ben’s Lighthouse To Host Back-To-School Ice Cream Social

    Ben’s Lighthouse, an organization dedicated to supporting and uplifting the children of Newtown in the wake of 12/14, will host an ice cream social on Saturday, August 31, from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. The event will be at Trinity Episcopal Church. It will feature local dignitaries and celebrities scooping ice cream from Ferris Acres Creamery. In addition, Newtown Acts of Kindness will be providing free lemonade and lemonade stand kits, there will be activities and information booths sponsored by A Bead of Roses, Connecticut Music Therapy, Emerald Sketch Art Therapists, Ben’s Bells and the REACH program. Comfort pets and members of Newtown Juggling & Circus Arts Club are also expected to be on hand.

  • Newtown Public Schools Free And Reduced Meals Available

    The Newtown Public Schools offer a choice of healthy meals each school day. Children may buy reduced price lunches at all of the town's public school; reduced rate breakfast is also available at Newtown Middle School and Newtown High School. The program runs from October 1, 2013, to September 30, 2014. Applications will be sent home with students during the first week of school.
