Fresh Air Fund Chairperson for Newtown Marie Athans is throwing a pizza party on March 20 — Fresh Air Day.
Looking forward to the first day of spring on that same day, she welcomes Fresh Air host families who have welcomed a child or are thinking of welcoming a New York City child into their homes this summer. The party will be at Franco’s Pizza in Sand Hill Plaza, 228 South Main Street, Newtown at 4:30 pm, kicking off the fresh air celebration, she said.
In a recent letter to families, she wrote: “Bring your family and anyone who you think might be interested in hosting a child this summer so they can learn more about The Fresh Air Fund.”
Franco’s will give free slices of pizza to children that attend.
With several confirmed guests, Ms Ahtans is hoping to hear back from more prior and potential host families. “It’s a nice way for people to get together, and learn more about the Fresh Air Fund,” she said. “I hope that we can get more families interested and more families to reinvite.”
Anticipating the summer days when inner city children might swim in a lake for the first time, or take their first ride on horseback, or just enjoy Newtown’s open spaces and trails, she said, “We are all for the kids. We promote fun, fresh, air and a good vacation.”
July and August dates to welcome children for roughly one week are still available.
RSVP with the number of persons who will be attending by Monday, March 18 by e-mailing Ms Athans at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 203 426-7137.
According to the fund's website at FreshAir.org, each summer The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, provides thousands of New York City children with unforgettable summer experiences that unlock their limitless potential.
