The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have an oil painting demonstration by Carol Reeves on Wednesday, March 27, at 1:30 pm. Her subject will be a floral.
The program is open to the public and will be held in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street.
Carol Reeves divides her time between Maine and Connecticut. This provides her with plein air painting opportunities that would fill any painter’s palette.
Also, her travels allow her to paint on location throughout the US and Europe. Working in both oils and pastels, her painterly approach, using lively brush strokes and bold color, have earned her the title of “colorist.” A hot underpainting offers her the opportunity for creating the juxtaposition of cool over hot, thus conveying a sparkling effect that allows her paintings to glimmer.
Ms Reeves received her formal education from the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts, augmented by years of study with master painters across the US.
She has exhibited her work nationally, and has been honored with many prestigious awards from a variety of notable institutions and associations including The Salmagundi Club, Catherine Lorillard Wolfe, National Arts Club, New Britain Museum of Art, Renaissance in Pastels, Paul Melon Art Center, and many more.
Her works are included in many private and corporate collections, most recently in the grand foyer of the American Embassy in Haiti.
Ms Reeves is a member of the Oil Painters of America, and serves on the executive board of The Connecticut Pastel Society, where she is a Signature Member. She is also a member of The American Society of Portrait Painters, The American Academy of Women Artists, The International Society of Pastel Painters and The International Society of Artists, based out of Sweden. She was also juried into the prestigious Biennale Internazionale Dell’Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy.
Admission is free for SCAN programs, and reservations are not necessary. Additional information is available at 203-426-6654.
