"Gardening Adventures With Flowering Shrubs," March 26 At Library

The March meeting of The Garden Club of Newtown will feature Kerry Ann Mendez with a program on flowering shrubs, at Cyrenius H. Booth Library at 1 pm on Tuesday, March 26.

Kerry Ann Mendez describes her business, Perennially Yours, located in Ballston Spa, N.Y., as "'dedicated to teaching gardeners of all ages the joy and satisfaction of  low-maintenance, ever-blooming perennial gardening." Her lecture for the garden club, "Branch Out in Your Gardening Adventures with Flowering Shrubs," will focus on adding drama, winter interest and colorful flowers to a garden while reducing the time spent on maintenance. Her solution is spectacular flowering shrubs, including some that also contribute dazzling foliage. This presentation will introduce some shrubs as well as their care.

As a garden consultant, designer, teacher and lecturer, Ms Mendez has a particular interest in time-saving techniques and work horse plant material as well as organic practices. She has been in numerous magazines, including Horticulture, Fine Gardening, Garden Gate and Better Homes and Gardens Garden Ideas & Outdoor Living. She was a featured guest on HGTV and hosted Capital News 9's In the Garden television segment as well as info segments for Channel 13. She is the garden columnist for Capital Region Living magazine and writes freelance pieces for regional and national magazines.

A self-taught gardener with over 25 years of experience and a "passionate perennialist" who enjoys mixing humor with practical information, Ms Mendez is also the author of two top-selling books. Copies of The Ultimate Flower Gardener's Top Ten Lists and Top Ten Lists for Beautiful Shade Gardens will both be available for purchase and autographs following her program.

"Branch Out in Your Gardening Adventures with Flowering Shrubs" will take place in the first floor meeting room of the library, 25 Main Street. The public is encouraged to attend; there is a guest fee of $5 for non-members. Registration is not required, but additional information is available by calling 203-512-7320.

The program will not be held if the Newtown Public Schools are closed for weather-related reasons.
