Nighthawks Compete In Track State Championships

Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ indoor track teams competed in the Class LL and State Open championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center, February 16 and 19, respectively.

Jake Feinstein had runner-up finishes in the 3200 meter run in both the LL and Open meets. The Newtown girls were 13th in the LL competition with 10 points. Norwich Free Academy won first place with 83.50. On the boys’ side, Newtown was 14th with nine points. Staples of Westport took first with 78.

Feinstein finished the 3200 at the Open in a time of 9:26.23 and his second-place finish gave the NHS boys their eight points and a 17th-place team result among 46 schools to score points. Bloomfield, with 61, earned first.

4x200 relay: 11. Reagan Cerney, Newton, Melissa Buccino, and Tolla, 1:52.51.

4x400 relay: 10. Shelby Tolla, Buccino, Eggleston, and Taylor Zingaro, 4:26.79.

1600 sprint medley relay: 9. Shelby Tolla, Jacqueline Mooney, Zingaro, and Kelly Coughlin, 4:49.38.

Pole vault: 7. Jenna Calandro, 9-00.

Shot put: 4. Amy Anyoha, 34-06.

 

Boys

300: 11. Stephen Conway, 38.67. 23. Sam Boland, 39.73.

1600: 7. Paul Mangiafico, 4:34.76.

3200: 2. Feinstein, 9:27.73. 12. Mitchell Russo, 9:58.44. 17. Mangiafico, 10:08.96.
