HealingNewtown Arts Space is planning an open mic event for Saturday, March 30, from 5 to 9 pm.
This will be a fun event for everyone, and an opportunity for those interested to perform. Organizers are hoping to hear from musicians, poets, comedians, jugglers… whoever wants to get on stage.
Performers should plan to keep performances family-friendly, and be sensitive to the fact that there are families and friends who attend these events who were directly affected by what happened on 12/14, says HealingNewtown Secretary and open mic co-organizer Robert Rabinowitz.
In order to give everyone a chance to participate, performers may be limited to two songs, readings, etc.
Anyone interested in participating should contact HealingNewtownOnline@gmail.com. Solo singers who need someone to should provide information on what song you might like to sing.
“We can’t promise that there will be someone there who can accompany you on any particular song but we can try,” promised Mr Rabonowitz. Also, The Guitar Center will be donating a PA, amps, drums and a keyboard, so musicians should leave their heavy gear at home and use what is already on site.
Admission is free.
Attendees are encouraged to bring bottled drinks, packaged snacks or a pizza to share.
The arts space is at 5 Queen Street, next to Caraluzzi's Newtown Market. Performers and attendees are asked to park at Newtown Middle School for this event, which is expected to draw a large crowd. There is limited parking in front of HealingNewtown.
