Police Reports May 24 - June 4

Botsford Bridge

Trucker Robert Gomper, 55, of East Hartford, who was driving a 2009 Hino truck loaded with cargo eastward on Botsford Hill Road at about 12:25 pm on June 4, drove past a warning sign stating that the Housatonic Railroad’s train overpass there had a clearance limit of 11 feet, 5 inches, police said.

The top of the truck then smashed into the bottom on the overpass, damaging the top of the truck and ejecting some cargo onto the roadway, police said.

 At that time, motorist Mitchell Hoffman, 33, of Astoria, N.Y., was driving a 2010 Toyota Camry sedan westward on Botsford Hill Road, police said.

The Toyota then struck a piece of the accident debris, police report.

The incident damaged the Hino, the Toyota, and the overpass. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Gomper an infraction for a bridge-clearance violation.

 

Vehicle Damaged

Police report that an unspecified parked motor vehicle was damaged when an unknown motorist struck it with an unknown vehicle sometime between 7 am and 2 pm on May 24 in the parking lot for the Newtown United Methodist Church at 92 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center. The offending driver left the scene without reporting the collision.

Police said the crash occurred in the section of the parking lot near Church Hill Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the offending driver to contact them at the police station.

 

Bicycle Held

At about 2 pm on May 27, a person found a black and red Trek-brand mountain bicycle in a wooded area behind the Newtown Savings Bank’s main office at 39 Main Street.

Police are holding the bicycle for safekeeping. The owner should contact them to claim the bike.

 

Intersection Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident in the intersection of Hawleyville Road, Obtuse Road, and Currituck Road about 9 am on May 28.

The accident involved motorist Sebastian DeOliveira, 48, of 118 Currituck Road, who was driving a 1998 Chevrolet K-2500 pickup truck, and motorist Samuel LaRosa III, 55, of 3 Pheasant Ridge Road, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Prius, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued DeOliveira a written warning for following too closely.

 

Berkshire Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Berkshire Road, just east of its intersection with Pole Bridge Road,  about 2:37 pm on June 2.

In that incident, a 2012 Toyota Tundra pickup truck driven by Eric Zima 47, of New Fairfield collided with a 2013 Toyota Venza SUV driven by Ronald Comizio, 48, of Brookfield. Comizio was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

The accident is under investigation.

BMW Vs BMW

Police report an accident involving two BMW sedans about 5 pm on May 28 near 6 Taunton Lake Drive.

Police said that motorist Angela Dietrich, 46, of Somers, N.Y., was driving a 2013 BMW 650-I sedan southward on Taunton Lake Drive, as motorist Christopher Basso, 23, of 21 Taunton Lake Drive was driving a 1998 BMW 3-series sedan northward there.

The 650-I sedan crossed over the center of the road, resulting in a collision of the two vehicles, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Dietrich a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.

 

Moving Violations

Police report that while on patrol at about 7:24 am on May 31, they spotted motorist David Eisenbach, 45, of 123 Taunton Hill Road driving northward on Main Street without wearing a seatbelt, after which they stopped him to investigate on Church Hill Road.

Police said they charged him with failure to wear a seatbelt and with driving with a suspended vehicle registration. Police said they released Eisenbach on a written promise to appear in court on June 19.

 

Intersection Collision

A two-sedan accident occurred at the intersection of Hall Lane and Hanover Road about 7:01 am on June 3, police report.

Motorist Elaine Ciesielski, 66, of New Milford was driving a 2004 Buick LeSabre sedan southward on Hanover Road, as motorist Sandra Jarvis, 47, of 55 Farrell Road was driving a 2007 Honda Civic sedan eastward on Hall Lane, police said.

The Honda failed to obey a stop sign, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Jarvis an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Chain-Reaction

Crash

A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred on northbound South Main Street, near its intersection with Meadowbrook Road and Botsford Hill Road, at about 2 pm on May 30.

In that accident, motorist Erica Redfern, 18, of Monroe, who was driving a Toyota Prius, struck the rear end of a 2005 Toyota Sienna minivan driven by Samantha Wall, 17, of Monroe, police said.

That impact pushed the Sienna into the rear end of a 2001 Saab 9/5 sedan driven by Linda Dunn, 72, of 26 Old Bethel Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Redfern an infraction for following too closely.

 

Vehicular Violation

Police report that they spotted a yellow Chevrolet Camaro traveling northward on South Main Street without a front marker plate at about 11:14 am on May 31, so they stopped its driver on Wasserman Way near Trades Lane to investigate.

Police report they charged motorist Raymond Rinaldi, 46, of 34 Philo Curtis Road with driving with a suspended vehicle registration.

Rinaldi was released on a written promise to appear in court on June 18.

Hawleyville Collision

Motorist Janet Williams Dorsey, 65, of Burlington, N.C., was driving a 2005 Lexus SUV northward on Hawleyville Road and was starting to make a left turn onto westbound Old Hawleyville Road at about 6:22 pm on May 30, when northbound motorist James Carley, 50, of New Milford, who was driving a 2010 Ford SUV, attempted to pass the Lexus on the left, resulting in a collision, police said. 

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Carley a written warning for passing in a no-passing zone. Police report they issued Dorsey an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.
