Purple Butterflies For Dylan

Photo: ---

On Friday, March 8, Dylan Hockley would have celebrated his seventh birthday.

Dylan was one of the children killed on 12/14. To honor him and his memory, The Sandy Hook Arts Center for Kids (SHACK) will host a special program where visitors to the Church Hill Road art studio will be invited to paint butterflies in his favorite color to honor his life and memory. The butterfly is a symbol Dylan’s family has chosen to remember him by.

The program will run from 4 to 5:30 at The SHACK, 100 Church Hill Road (Suite 104, opposite PJ’s Laundromat).

Residents are being encouraged to wear purple on Friday in honor of Dylan.

There is no charge for Purple Butterflies For Dylan. Donations will be accepted, however, to help The SHACK continue to provide ongoing free art, music, and pet therapy to the victims and survivors of 12/14.

This program will replace the previously announced Pop-In Art Session, twice-weekly events that will resume on Monday, March 11.

Those who cannot visit the studio this week are still encouraged to remember Dylan, and to paint a butterfly in his honor. Make, paint and/or sculpt a butterfly from any materials and mail or ship it to The SHACK, 100 Church Hill Road Suite 104, Sandy Hook CT 06482.

On Thursday, March 21, The SHACK will host “Butterflies For Dylan,” from 5 to 8 pm. That evening — the first day of spring — butterflies created of all shapes, sizes and styles will be displayed in an effort to symbolize transformation, new lift and new beginnings.

Wine, cheese and light refreshments will be served. Additional details will be announced at a later date.
