A United Council In Support Of The Budget

To the Editor:

On April 2nd, the Legislative Council unanimously approved the budget put forth for our consideration by the Board of Finance. This budget represents a zero tax increase while taking into account the need for a solid school security plan, proper coverage of our health insurance funds, money to repair our roads as well as a reduction in staffing in our schools in response to declining enrollment.

Please join us on Tuesday, April 22nd, and vote yes at the Middle School on Queen Street from 6 am – 8pm.

Budget does increase taxes

The Chairwomen of the Legislative Council is incorrect is saying the budget represent a zero tax increase. The proposed budget will raise about a million dollars more in taxes through increased revenue ( Thats what taxes are revenue). The original budget under estimated revenue and rather than save the one million dollars and lower our mill rate they decided to spend it, mostly in the municipal budget. The real story is the mill rate will not change but our spending is up a million dollars and thus our taxes have increased.
