Recently, a friend offered me some tortilla chips from a local restaurant. I declined, explaining that lately corn chips were making me congested. (What the heck?!) That got me lamenting to him about how much I missed snacking on corn chips, and how Fritos had figured predominantly in my childhood.
Nearly a century separates the lives of the man recognized as Newtown’s first historian, Ezra Levan Johnson, and Newtown’s first official historian, Daniel Cruson, but uncanny similarities between the two men make them brethren.

Instead of the usual NBC “Bugler’s Dream” trumpet blast that has been greeting my ears during the 2014 broadcasts of the Winter Olympics, I perked up at one point when I recognized the Connecticut-produced “Nothing More” song. “Nothing More” was composed by Tim Warren of the band Alternate Routes, to support Newtown Kindness, an organization founded by the family of Charlotte Bacon, who died 12/14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Valentine’s Day came a little early for some of Newtown’s youngest as well as the town’s most experienced residents. For the second year in a row, the Newtown Youth Basketball Association (NYBA) teamed with Newtown High School’s girls’ basketball program, the cheerleaders, and the NHS culinary department to hold Senior Citizen Appreciation Night, a pre-Valentine’s Day dinner for the community’s senior citizens.
Stephanie Cinque, founder of The Resiliency Center of Newtown (RCN), and Beth Bogdan, who organized two Music For Newtown auctions, on February 1. The women were packaging the items that had sold during Ms Bogdan’s second annual auction, which this year served as a fundraiser for RCN. Ms Bogdan is holding a guitar signed by the members of Florida Georgia Line.
Occupation: I am the CFO at Newtown Savings Bank, and this summer will make 15 years I’ve been doing this. I take care of anything financial — budgeting, reporting, profitability reporting, and a lot of other things.
Family: My wife Margaret and I have been married for 18 years. We have a son, Tim, who is 12, and a daughter, Ally, who is 9 years old.
