Agreements have been reached among members of the Great Newtown Reunion Committee, Hook & Ladder Fire Company No. 1, and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, with each of the fire companies heading up separate catering responsibilities for the gathering July 27 at Fairfield Hills.
America responded with love following the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. So much love, in fact, that it could not be contained within the borders of the town.
Teddy bears and other stuffed toys, pillows, and comfort articles of all sizes blanketed Newtown after 12/14. Well-wishers across the country and all over the world sought to bring solace to Newtown’s children and families in a universal gesture of comfort, the hugging of a stuffed toy that asks for nothing in return.

First Selectman Rod Mac Kenzie will look into the possibility of establishing an impoundment area for abandoned vehicles. Abandoned vehicles are towed to local garages where they are kept for a period of time without compensation to the garage. Storing these vehicles sometimes created eyesores and zoning problems, according to the first selectman.
New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Tiler Peck walks through a room of students, helping them with postures and positions as needed. Ms Peck and her fiancé, fellow NYCB Principal Robert Fairchild, made a special visit to Sandy Hook on April 22 to lead a pair of master classes at The Graceful Planet. Students from Newtown Centre of Classical Ballet were also part of the special sessions.
For local volunteer Eileen Byrnes, hanging Hearts of Hope — palm-sized ceramic hearts accompanied by a message of love — all around Newtown for Valentine’s Day, the two-month anniversary of the 12/14 shootings, was “like being the Easter Bunny. It was so much fun.”
Local merchants hope to see Sandy Hook Center, pictured from the top of a Sandy Hook fire truck ladder last autumn, teeming with visitors April 27 as the local business association SHOP holds its free Spring Fling Block Party.
