  • Lamp Lighting Marks Streetscape Phase II Completion

    Raising glasses in a champagne toast on Friday, October 4, officials and residents seated along a decorative stone wall and standing on a new stamped concrete walkway on the corner of Riverside Road and Washington Avenue cheered as antique-style lampposts suddenly lit.

    Flipping a switch in a circuit box across from the intersection, First Selectman Pat Llodra watched the lamps light, then quickly returned to the crowd for a sip of champagne. Friday celebrated the completion of Phase II streetscape in Sandy Hook Center.

    Thursday, September 26: 10:30 am, residential fire alarm, 12 Eden Hill Road, Dodgingtown and Botsford responded; 11:28 am, medical assist, Saint George Place, Sandy Hook responded; 4:14 pm, motor vehicle accident with injuries, I-84 East, Sandy Hook responded.

  • New Book Will Be A Collection Of Letters To The World

    “Write about our community,” Suzanne Davenport challenged residents of Sandy Hook and Newtown, and nearly 100 people responded.

    The dispatchers at the Newtown Emergency Communications Center at 3 Main Street report the following fire calls and the responders:

  • Elizabeth "Betty Lou" Osborne

    Elizabeth Louise Brown Osborne, known to all as Betty Lou, died on September 11. Family, friends, and her beloved dogs surrounded her as she peacefully passed away on the land that she loved, Appleberry Farm. She was a resident of Sandy Hook for 74 of her 88 years.

  • R2R Cyclists Take On The Minuteman Challenge (And Connecticut’s Hills)

    American Legion Escort J.R. Dye watches as bicyclers ride from Southbury into Sandy Hook on Tuesday, September 10. The group of 150 bicycle riders, predominantly injured veterans, traveled by bicycle through Newtown that afternoon. The riders were on day three of a seven-day challenge that will eventually take them over 425 miles, finishing in Philadelphia on September 14.
