NHS Gymnasts Fifth In State, Participate In Open

SOUTHBURY — Newtown High School’s gymnastics team placed fifth in the Class L state championships at Pomperaug High on February 23. Southington, with 138.000 points, took first place, and Newtown scored 127.250. Newtown’s results are as follows:

Leah Wallace — vault 8.550, bars 8.850, beam 8.500, floor 9.050.

Anna Jannott — vault 8.500, beam 7.150.

Kaitlyn Tumney — vault 8.350, bars 7.500, floor 8.100.

Elisha Wilson — vault 8.175, bars 8.950, floor 8.250.

Jennifer Indelicato — bars 7.125

Daisey Zheng — beam 6.900.

Meagan Foy — beam 6.400.

Cameron Vasquez — floor 6.900.

Wallace and Wilson participated in the State Open at New Milford High School on March 1. Wallace was 11th on the vault, scoring a 9.125, tied for 13th on the bars, with an 8.550, and tied for 38th on the floor with an 8.125. Wallace was 27th in the all around scoring with a 25.800. Wilson tied for 34th on the bars with a score of 8.000. Newtown did not score as a team; Woodstock Academy won the competition.
