Host Family Needed For NHS Mandarin Teacher

Newtown High School and the Newtown International Center for Education (NICE) is seeking a host family for Mandarin teacher Xiaofeng Wang.

Mr Wang has been a part of the NHS World Language Department since August of 2012. As part of the international guest teacher program sponsored by The College Board, Asia Society, and Hanban, a nonprofit organization affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education, Mr Wang is on a short-term stay to enhance NHS’s Mandarin program and support NICE as it helps to bring cultures and language to the Newtown schools.

NHS is seeking a host family that is willing to provide a bedroom for Mr Wang from late August through December. In turn, the family will have the opportunity to learn about China, develop a friendship, and develop a greater understanding of the Chinese language, cuisine, and culture.

Mr Wang is completely fluent in English. Interested families can contact Jason Hiruo by e-mail at hiruoj@newtown.k12.ct.us or Paula Greenfield by e-mail at greenfieldp@newtown.k12.ct.us, or by calling the high school at 203-426-7648.
