Following an executive session Wednesday, May 29, the Board of Education voted to hire Thomas Einhorn to be principal at Newtown Middle School and Anne Uberti to be principal at Reed Intermediate School for the 2013-14 school year.
According to a release from the school district, Mr Einhorn is currently the acting principal of Hall High School in West Hartford, and was a special education teacher at Sedgewick Middle School, also in West Hartford, before that.
“[Mr Einhorn’s] almost 11 years of experience in administration at Hall High School finely honed his administrative skills,” reads the release. “…Tom Moore, the assistant superintendent for the West Hartford School System, says that [Mr Einhorn] is the go-to person, the one you can always count on to wise counsel an appropriate course of action, who can look at a problem, understand the various components and reach a productive judgment.”
West Hartford Superintendent Karen List said she believes Mr Einhorn is the right person for Newtown, according to the release.
Ms Uberti is currently principal at Thomaston Center School, which is a fourth through sixth grade school, in Thomaston. Previously Ms Uberti served as the kindergarten through sixth grade math coordinator in Region 14 and taught third, fourth, and sixth grade.
“[Ms Uberti’s] references describe her as an extraordinary teacher who quickly distinguishes herself in the classroom and through opportunities to interact with her ppers in her leadership role,” reads the release. “She is considered an authority on best instructional practice and a consummate team player in curriculum development.”
Thomaston Superintendent of Schools Lynda Mitchell said Ms Uberti is an exceptional administrator who understands the importance of education reform and possesses the ability to translate that understanding into an action plan for success, according to the release.
During an executive session held on May 21 the school board also hired Kathleen Gombos, the current principal at R.M.T. Johnson School in Bethel, as the new principal for Sandy Hook School, and Timothy Napolitano, who currently teaches at Reed Intermediate School, was appointed as assistant principal for the elementary school.
