Art In Residence Curators Thinking ‘All About Spring’

Art In Residence, a fine art gallery in northern Newtown, will host a special opening weekend reception for “All About Spring” on Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27.

To celebrate the season and the gallery’s six-month anniversary, gallery owners Rosemary and Robert Rau will created a show filled with works that celebrate the current season. For its opening weekend, the exhibition will also feature special guest speakers who have agreed to informally share their garden wisdom and stories each day.

Sydney Eddison, a Newtown resident, master gardener and gardening book author, will be the guest on April 26. Her latest book is Gardening for a Lifetime. She is the winner of National Garden Clubs, Inc. Award of Excellence.

Jane Vouros, a Town & Country Garden Club member and innkeeper and co-owner with her husband John of The Dana-Holcombe House, will be Sunday’s guest. Ms Vourus is also caretaker of the heirloom garden of the inn she and her husband own and operate on Main Street in Newtown.

The guest speakers will be at the gallery from noon to 2 each day; the reception will run from 11 am until 5 pm each day. The public is invited to tour the gallery and see the beauty of the season as captured by the artists and in gardens on the property as spring bursts forth.

“All About Spring” will feature works by Joseph Bostany, Anne Marie Foran, Aline LaPointe, Katya Lebrija, Adele Moros, Michelle Rosenthal, Laura Wilk, and Virginia  Zic.

Art In Residence is within the home of Mr and Mrs Rau, at 12 Lake Road. For this show, in a nod to recycling art, Mrs Rau is painting a large metal bird constructed from recycled garden tools, to sit by the property’s mailbox. Gallery visitors can watch for the art when looking for the gallery, which is open by appointment.
