Live At Edmond Town Hall: Phosphorescent, April 19

Tickets went on sale this morning for an April 19 concert by Phosphorescent, the next show in the Live at Edmond Town Hall Presents series.

Alabama native Matthew Houck has delivered six albums as Phosphorescent since his 2003 debut, A Hundred Times or More.

Following the EP The Weight of Flight in 2004, Phosphorescent released Aw Come Aw Wry in August 2005; Pride, a delicate and spartan work of ragged country, bittersweet southern gospel and forlorn folk-ish drone, in 2007; To Willie, a tribute to country legend Willie Nelson in 2009; and then Here’s To Taking It Easy the following year, an unapologetically enthusiastic plunge into country rock and rolling Americana.

His latest album, Muchacho, flashes yet another color in the subtly shifting Phosphorescent spectrum. The new album is set to be released on March 19, but listeners already have a few options. NPR featured Phosphorescent in its March 3 First Listen segment and online feature, which allows visitors to npr.org to listen to all ten of the new album’s tracks.  The album (literally, available on vinyl along with CD and mp3 version) will also be available through iTunes, Amazon and independent retailer Rough Trade.

Live at Edmond Town Hall will present Phosphorescent on Friday, April 19. Doors will open at 6:30 pm, and showtime is 7 pm.

Tickets are $25, with proceeds to go toward the continued renovation of the Edmond Town Hall Theatre. Visit EdmondTownHall.org for tickets.

Built during the Great Depression, this New England landmark has the distinction of being the only $2 movie theater in Connecticut.

Theatergoers immediately recognize the cosmetic renovations needed: plaster repair, painting, reupholstering balcony seats, and new stage drapes. Ultimately, behind-the-scenes modernizations will not only open the way for a wider variety of events, but will also enhance the live theater experience.

The Phosphorescent show will reportedly debut a new sound system at the town hall, designed and installed by DNR Integrated Systems.
