To the Editor:
In response to the “Editorial Ink Drops” printed in The Bee 02/15/13, I am truly saddened by the editor of The Bee's view of certain government affairs and agencies. I wonder if there is a personal agenda attached to his remarks last week, or if it is simply not knowing history or understanding the Constitution of The United States of America?
I ask you to visit the following link, six things Americans should know about the Second Amendment http://jpfo.org/filegen-n-z/six-about-2nd.htm . I also encourage all to look up St. George Tucker, a friend of Thomas Jefferson and a Virginia Supreme Court Justice; his notes can be found at the following link http://www.guncite.com/gc2ndcom.html . Here is a brief overview of his view of the Second Amendment from his appendix notes: “This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty. The right of self-defense is the first law of nature; in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Whenever standing armies are kept up, and the right to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction.”
As for funding of the CDC to research “Gun Violence,” the editor surely must be joking to suggest that an agency whose sole purpose is to track and suggest risk management for diseases, should somehow expand its reach into a subject it was never designed to observe and certainly knows nothing about! Furthermore, I must reject anyone who singles out “Gun Violence” from any other type of violence. All violence is unacceptable. Much like racism, there is no distinguishing kind or sect; there is either violence or peace, just like there is either racism or there is tolerance. To qualify either is to falsely give a sense that some sub sect of either is acceptable. This must stop. We must treat the larger issue, which is society has broken down due to a lack of accountability and responsibility. Removed mostly by those seeking power to blur the lines of decency, you need to look no further than our so called “Leaders” to see how society has failed.
For example, Bill Clinton lied under oath, George W. Bush falsely abandoned Capitalism while bailing out failure, President Obama signs into law “automatic spending cuts” yet now blames Republicans for automatic cuts that take effect this year. The world is truly upside down. We do not have a gun problem, we have a mental health issue and a tyranny issue disguised as a security problem! (Quote from Joe Rogan) Lastly, let us not forget, owning a gun is a right; driving a car is a privilege! The Bill of Rights is not a gift of freedom from the government; they are laws of nature that governments have no power to control or alter!
