A West Virginia Concert Supports NYFS

To the Editor:

Newtown Youth and Family Services (NYFS) would like to thank members of a West Virginia band, Rain Crow, for organizing a musical fundraiser for the organization. The fundraiser held in Capon Bridge West Virginia in January raised over $4,700 for NYFS. The event included musical acts from several genres, an auction, dancing and refreshments.

We asked why Rain Crow chose NYFS as the recipient of the benefit concert. They responded that after researching organizations that will be providing long-term therapy and counseling services for the community they found NYFS. “We, the members of Rain Crow have been deeply touched by the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School…We decided to organize a musical benefit called Hampshire Helps Sandy Hook, to raise funds for long-term psychological support for the community.”

This generous donation will make it possible for us to help the Newtown / Sandy Hook community. This donation specifically, and the overall support of people like Rain Crow, and the community in Hampshire West Virginia, are what make it possible for us to expand and enrich the services we provide. NYFS is currently working with the town to develop a long term plan for mental health needs.

Newtown Youth and Family Services, Inc. is a licensed, non-profit, mental health clinic and youth services bureau dedicated to helping children and families achieve their highest potential. NYFS provides programs, services, activities, counseling, support groups and education throughout the Greater Newtown area.
