A Board of Education special meeting for discussion and possible action on the appointment of an interim superintendent never took place Tuesday, March 12.
Following a "nonmeeting," which lasted beyond the scheduled time for the special meeting, Board of Education Chair Debbie Leidlein said her board was not prepared to make an appointment for an interim superintendent Tuesday. She also said she was not going to comment on when a decision might be made.
During its Tuesday, March 5, meeting the Board of Education announced it received Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson’s letter of resignation, and by the end of the meeting, the board passed two motions to begin searching for both an interim and a permanent superintendent.
Dr Robinson’s resignation will be effective on June 28; she has accepted the position as superintendent of schools in Stratford.
The school board plans to search for both an interim and a permanent superintendent. The interim superintendent is expected to start his or her time in the district before Dr Robinson leaves, allowing for an overlap. At the March 5 meeting, school board Vice Chair Laura Roche said the school board intended to begin interviewing for an interim superintendent within a week of that night.
Ms Roche also said the school board hopes to hire a superintendent search firm in the future to help find a permanent superintendent.
