A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the entire state of Connecticut today. According to the National Weather Service, “wind gusts between 20-25 mph are expected to develop this afternoon before diminishing late in the day. At the same time, relative humidity values will drop to around 30 percent. This will create an enhanced threat for the spread of wildfires this afternoon.”
While Newtown’s open burning season was recently extended, residents are reminded that they must arrange for an open burning permit and contact the town’s emergency dispatch center (203-270-4255) on the day of their scheduled burn to learn if weather conditions allow such activity on that day.
Permits will not be valid, according to the CT DEEP Forest Fire Control Office, if the Forest Fire Danger is rated High, Very High or Extreme, and burning is done within 100 feet of a grassland or woodland.
The Forest Fire Danger Level for Tuesday, April 9, is High.
