Freightliner Accident

Trucker David Widener, 52, of Mt Pleasant, Penn., was driving a 2008 Freightliner tuck on westbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 9 interchange, when he drove off the left side of the highway and struck some guardrailing, state police report.

Widener was not injured. State police said he failed to drive in the established lane.

 

 Cellphone Found

Police report that on February 5, a black Samsung-brand Galaxy X-5 cellphone was found lying in the area near 134 Currituck Road, which is near Currituck Road’s intersection with Signal Post Road, at the Housatonic Railroad’s rail bridge above Currituck Road.

Police said that the finder of the device brought it to the police station for safekeeping. The cellphone’s owner should contact police to claim it.

Swamp Road Accident

About 6:09 pm on January 26, motorist Kevin Gordon, 53, of 46 Philo Curtis Road was driving a 2012 Mazda 3 sedan northward near 44 Swamp Road in an area where the street curves to the left, police said.

The Mazda, however, continued moving in a straight line and went off the right side of the road, striking a tree, police said.

Gordon was transported by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to police. The incident is under investigation, police said.

 

Slick Ramp

At about 9:13 am on February 3, during snowy, slushy pavement conditions, motorist Mark Christian, 29, of Bridgeport was driving a 2003 Mercury Sable sedan on the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84, when the auto went out of control and skidded to the right, striking some safety barriers, state police said.

State police said that Christian refused medical attention for himself and a 2-year-old passenger in the Mercury. State police issued Christian an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

 

Rear-Ender

State police report that at about 6:10 am on February 4, motorist Brian Moynihan, 25, of Unionville, who was driving a 1999 Subaru Forester, stopped for traffic conditions on a wet westbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of Exit 9, and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Milorad Vracevic, 60, of Glastonbury, who was driving a 2007 Honda Accord.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

 

Subaru I-84 Crash

At about 6:30 am on February 4, motorist Thomas Norton, 57, of Oakville, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Legacy westward on Interstate 84, about 200 feet west of the Exit 11 off-ramp, lost control of the auto and traveled off the left road shoulder, striking about 160 feet of guardcabling, state police said.

State police said Norton met them at the Mobil gas station on Church Hill Road to explain what had happened. Norton was not injured. State police said they issued him an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane.

 

Church Hill Road Accident

Police report that motorist Robina Rousseau, 49, of 89 Church Hill Road was driving a 2010 Mercedes- Benz GLK SUV westward on Church Hill Road at about 12:30 pm on February 4 and then slowed and signaled to make a right turn into her residential driveway, after which the Mercedes was struck from behind by motorist David Eturaspe, 75, of 31 Tunnel Road, who was driving a 2012 Nissan Rogue SUV.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Eturaspe for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

 

Snowy I-84

State police report a one-vehicle accident on a snow-covered Interstate 84 about 11:20 am on February 5.

Motorist John Flax, 52, of Danbury was driving a 2011 Mercedes-Benz C-300 eastward on I-84, about 500 feet west of Exit 9, when he lost control of the auto on the snow-covered road and then struck a snow bank off the right road shoulder, state police said.

Flax was not injured. State police said they verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.

 

 

SUV Collision

At about 9:15 am on February 7, motorist Marybeth Collier, 61, of 8 Smoke Rise Ridge was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV westward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Tory Lane, when two deer crossed the road, resulting in a collision between the SUV and one of the deer, according to police.

Collier was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

 

Car Vs Truck

State police said that motorist Janine Defeo, 68, of Woodbury was driving a 1999 Honda Accord westward on Interstate 84, about one-half mile west of Exit 13, when Defeo drove to the left and struck a 1999 International 4000 truck driven by Anthony Indelicato, 44, of Danbury about 11:18 am on February 7.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Defeo for making an unsafe lane change.

 

Windshield Vandalism

Police report that sometime between 5 pm on February 8 and 4:30 pm on February 9, someone intentionally broke the rear windshield on a vehicle that was parked in the driveway at 4 Meadow Road in the borough. The incident caused approximately $500 of property damage.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the criminal mischief to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841 regarding Case #2014-2517.

 

South Main Street

Motorist Michael Hill, 23, of 10 West Street was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry sedan northward on South Main Street, near Greenbriar Lane, about 10 pm on February 9, when the auto went out of control on the snow-covered roadway and struck a wooden post, police said.

Hill was not injured. Police said they issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

 

Sedan Vs SUV

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road about 8:56 am on February 10.

Motorist Timothy Camarota, 35, of Shelton, who was driving a 2013 Nisan Rogue SUV northward on Wasserman Way, stopped at the intersection and was then struck from behind by northbound motorist Richard Portelance, 46, of New Milford, who was driving a 2014 Kia Optima sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Portelance for following too closely.

 

Three-Way Intersection Accident

Police report an accident at the busy four-way signalized intersection of South Main Street, Botsford Hill Road, and Meadow Brook Road about 9:34 am on February 10.

Motorist Jean Estiverne, 26, of Stamford was driving a 2013 Nissan Versa southward on South Main Street and approaching the intersection, as motorist Allen Williams III, 58, of New Milford, who was driving a 2002 Lexus RX-300 SUV, was waiting on westbound Botsford Hill Road, police said.

The Lexus then entered the intersection and was attempting to make a left turn to go southward on South Main Street, after which the southbound Nissan traveled through a red traffic signal and collided with Lexus, police said.

There were no injuries. Estiverne received a written warning for failure to obey a traffic control signal, police said.

 

Botsford Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident in Botsford about 3:17 pm on February 10.

Motorist Lilia Oberdorfer, 21, of 4 Dusty Lane, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Sienna minivan, was traveling southward on Dusty Lane and then entered its intersection with Botsford Hill Road, after which the minivan collided with motorist Ervin Foster, 26, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry sedan westward on Botsford Hill Road, according to police.

Foster was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

Police said they issued Oberdorfer a written warning for failure to grant the right of way after leaving a stop sign, and also gave her an infraction for driving without a license.

 

Berkshire Road Accident

At about 9 am on February 11, motorist Jessica Marie Dugan, 29, of New Haven was driving a 2007 Ford Focus sedan westward on Berkshire Road, near I-84’s Exit 11 overpasses, and then stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Ford was struck from behind by westbound motorist Theresa Kaeser, 28, of Seymour, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Highlander SUV, according to police.

There were no injuries. Kaeser received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

 

Evading Responsibility

At about 3 pm on February 11, police responded to Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Whippoorwill Hill Road, on a report that a vehicular accident had occurred and that one of the drivers had left the scene.

A Danbury man, who was driving a tractor-trailer truck that had been involved in the crash, told police that the evading motorist was driving a silver/gray four-door sedan which would have a broken driver’s side exterior rear-view mirror, as well as damage to its left side. The sedan’s driver was described as a white male with dark hair.

Police said the tractor-trailer driver was not injured. Police are investigating and ask anyone who witnessed the accident or who has knowledge of it to contact them.

 

Multiple Charges

Police report that at about 9:22 am on February 11, they stopped motorist Jesse Rocha DeAlmeida, 31, of Bridgeport because he was using a handheld cellphone while driving near 26 South Main Street.

After investigating, police said they charged him with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving and with driving with a suspended license. Police said they released him on a written promise to appear in court on February 25.

Also, police said they turned over DeAlmeida to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement in connection with a pending deportation.
