Irene Coad

Irene A. Coad, 97, of Woodbury, died on Wednesday, February 13, at her home. A Newtown native, she was the widow of George E. Coad, Sr.

Mrs Coad was born August 14, 1915, in Newtown, a daughter of Ruth Rebecca (Johnson) and Serino F. King.

She graduated from Woodbury High School. She worked at Chase Brass & Copper and The Curtis House, before working at and then retiring from Southbury Training School.

Mrs Coad was a member of North Congregational Church, and a longtime member and past matron of Eastern Star. She had also served with the Ladies Auxiliary of Woodbury Fire Department and was a life member of the Bethlehem Fair Society.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, four daughters and two sons-in-law, three brothers, two sisters, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, at 10 am, in North Congregational Church, Main Street North in Woodbury.
