Margaret Clayton-Amey

Margaret Clayton-Amey, 72, of Oxford, died April 21, at home. She was the beloved wife of Brian Amey, assistant vice president and branch manager of the Main Street Newtown Savings Bank. She was born in Fowey, Cornwall, England, September 23, 1940, the daughter of Rhoda Clayton and John William Clayton.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Joanne Gardner, and her husband Norman, of Sandy Hook; two sons, Tony Masiello, and his wife Quan, of Stoughton, Mass., and Andrew Masiello, and his wife Lenay, of Harrisburg, N.C.; and five grandchildren. Her sister Rhoda Jackson is her sole surviving sibling, together with six nephews and nieces, and seven grand-nephews and nieces, all in the UK and Europe. She was predeceased by three siblings, John Clayton, Mary Timms, and Ellalleen Clayton.

Mrs Clayton-Amey had many passions outside of her beloved family. She was an enthusiastic gardener and an accomplished quilter, a former president of Nutmeg Quilters CT, and a member of Scrapbag Quilters of Newtown and the Material Girls Group of Oxford Greens. Over the years her love of animals has been her hobby, in particular, border collies, beagles, and dachshunds, as well as a variety of cats.

Well-traveled, she enjoyed visiting interesting lands in Europe and Asia, including China and Thailand. She became a US citizen in July 1977 and enjoyed learning about her adopted country.

Friends are invited to pay respects at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Thursday, April 25, from 4 to 8 pm. Cremation will be private.
