WASHINTON – In an emotional vote, the Senate on Thursday handily beat back an attempt by some Republicans to block consideration of the most comprehensive gun-control legislation Congress has considered in 20 years.

George “Spike” LeGrice has organized Spike’s Ride For Sandy Hook, an event taking place this weekend that will raise funds for the families of those killed on 12/14. Mr LeGrice has organized an outdoor event that he expects will have nearly 3,000 cars, bikes, and trucks on display at Lime Rock Racetrack on Saturday, April 13. The event will run from 9 am until 6 pm. In addition to the thousands of cars, trucks, and bikes on display, the show will feature live music, a drifting exhibition, a motorcycle stunt show and an Eastern Motor Racing Association track event.
The Legislative Council’s Ordinance Committee fielded a range of public comments April 11 on a proposal to rework the town’s gun ordinance to better address the various issues, including public safety, posed by target shooting on residential properties.
Mary Ann Jacob, who chairs the committee, said she expects that the panel’s review of the topic would take several months to complete, possibly extending into the fall.
The Ordinance Committee is next scheduled to discuss the target shooting issue on May 8.
