SNAPSHOT: Linda Manna

Occupation: I have owned the Newtown Country Mill for 12 years. My business moved from southwestern Newtown last summer to Sandy Hook Center. We sell antiques, primitives, and décor for the country home.

Family: I’ve been married to Bob, my husband and best friend, for almost 45 years. We raised our three children here in town: Lee, Rob, and Michelle (Ferris). Our children are now raising their children here, our six grandchildren, Brian, Cole, Sean, Michael, Conner, and Melinda.

Pets: We are down to one golden retriever, Chase. He’s 4 years old. But Bob feeds the deer in the wintertime. Last night, we had 11 of them at the feeder…

How long have you lived in Newtown? We’ve lived in Newtown for 37 years, in the same house.

What do you like to do in your free time? I love to go antiquing, and I love gardening. I paint. I design furniture, Bob builds it, and I paint or distress it. A lot of our one-of-a-kind items are found in our store. I like to be creative. I love to read the country magazines and see the new trends, and read about antiques.

What are the current trends you are seeing? The older looking, the better. You want it to look like it’s 200 years old!

What is the best thing about Newtown? It’s a great place to raise your children. The people, the charm, the country environment are wonderful. Our children received an excellent education in Newtown.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? My mom. She taught me to be responsible, and to be a hard worker, a good wife, and a good mother. I was only 18 when she passed away. She had that much influence on me.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Live day by day, and make the best of every day. Every day is a gift.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? I love to bake. I don’t always have time, so it’s a treat to spend the day in the kitchen baking. And I love chocolate!
