Flagpole Photographers Planning Annual Competition & Show At Town Library; Additional Exhibits Already On View

The Flagpole Photographers Camera Club will present their Annual Photo Competition & Show in the lower meeting room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, April 6-30 during regular library hours.

The event will begin with a reception open to the public on Saturday, April 6, from 3 to 5 pm. Light refreshments will be served, and the event will offer the opportunity to meet many of the participating photographers. The public will also have the first opportunity vote for the People’s Choice Award.

Member photographers from the Newtown area will also compete for awards such as The Jeannette Talarino Flower Award, The Dave Kriger Nature Award, The Bruce Allen Open Print Award, along with Open Color Print, Black and White Print and Best in Show. It is a tradition that the winning photo of the Dave Kriger Nature Award is displayed in the library stairway to the third floor.

The club currently also has an exhibit in progress at William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty, 17 Church Hill Road in Newtown. On view until the end of April, this exhibit features a variety of subjects including landscapes, animals, birds and flowers. Most of the photos are available for purchase.

The public is welcome to view the exhibit daily between 9 am and 5:30 pm.

The public is also invited to see an ongoing exhibit of member photographs at LeReine’s Cuisine, located in the Tier 1 complex at 31 Peck’s Lane, also in Newtown. The theme of this exhibit is Newtown landmarks; most photo are available for purchase.

On Thursday, April 4, the club will present a short lecture on Raw vs .jpg files, immediately followed by a workshop on how to critique your own photos. The program will run from 7:30 to 9 pm, at Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook.

Light refreshments will be served and the public is welcome to attend. There is no charge.

Flagpole Photographers Camera Club is comprised of individuals from Newtown and the surrounding area. All levels, from beginner to professional, are welcome. All meetings are open to the public and free.
