Kyle Armstrong will be bringing his dirt modified big block race car to Newtown's VFW Post #308 in Newtown on Sunday, April 7, at 2 pm. The public is invited to see the car and enjoy refreshments.
Mr Armstrong is the nephew of VFW Post 308 Ladies Auxiliary member Kathy DiCecca. An auto racer at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, N.Y., he will be bringing his car down to inspire others to “follow their dreams,” Ms DiCecca said. His own dream is to get into NASCAR.
Mr Armstrong races every Saturday at Lebanon Valley Speedway. His new season will begin April 6.
Mr Armstrong, 23, works as a carpenter with BKA Construction. His racing began at age 7, where he started out in go-karts. He raced in all the junior levels of the sport progressing through the adult divisions in 4-cyle and 2-cycle. In 2007 Mr Armstrong moved up to dirt modified stock car racing in the Sportsman division at Lebanon Valley Speedway.
Recent years’ career highlights include in 2012 he finished ninth in points in the Big Block Modified division at Lebanon Valley Speedway; in 2011 Mr Armstrong won Rookie of the Year in the Big Block Modified division at Lebanon Valley. Mr Armstrong has numerous wins and track championships at various tracks throughout his extensive go-karting career, including dual championships in Cuddebackville, N.Y., in 2003.
