The Newtown Police Union fund recently received a donation, representing entry fees collected for the 2013 Beautiful Baby Contest.
Lois Barber of Sandy Hook has launched this year’s contest, a friendly competition that will raise funds this year for Newtown’s first responders and The My Sandy Hook Family Fund.
To enter a child’s photo (newborn to 4 years), send a $10 check made payable to Newtown PBA and a nonreturnable 4- by 4-inch photo (trim a standard 4- by 6-inch photo down to size) with the child’s name, a contact phone number and an e-mail address written clearly on the back, to Beautiful Baby, c/o Lois Barber, 33 Zoar Road, Sandy Hook CT 06482. Contestants do not need to live in Newtown.
The public will be invited to vote for their favorite child, at $1 a vote, beginning Memorial Day weekend. Mrs Barber is hoping to have the voting booth — featuring the photos of all children entered into this year’s contest — at the Newtown Lions Club Great Pootatuck Duck Race in Sandy Hook Center on Saturday, May 25 (weather permitting).
The voting booth will also be staged at Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue’s 26th Annual LobsterFest, June 7-8, and then at Stop & Shop in Sand Hill Plaza until June 23.
As in years past, 100 percent of the funds raised through entry fees and voting will be donated to charities.
The wining child and his or her family will ride in Newtown’s Labor Day Parade in a convertible provided by Mercedes of Danbury, they will receive a Family Fun Prize Basket, and they will have their photo published in The Newtown Bee.
Every child entered will receive a toy, a free sitting and an 8- by 10-inch portrait sheet from JC Penny’s Portrait Studio at the Danbury Fair Mall ($19 Value), a free lesson at The Little Gym Newtown ($20 value), and children’s toothbrushes and toothpaste from David Nowacki DDS or Dental Associates.
