Video Game Tournament Saturday At SH Arcade Center

Pinball table manufacturer Stern Pinball, Inc. is partnering with the Sandy Hook Arcade Center to host a video game tournament, the company announced on March 13.

The Sandy Hook Challenge Tournament is open to children and teenagers. It will be held at Sandy Hook Arcade Center, the non-profit arcade within Sand Hill Plaza, 228 South Main Street. The tournament will be held Saturday, March 16, with qualifying rounds beginning at 4 pm. The final round will begin at 6:30, and winners will be awarded trophies provided by Sandy Hook Arcade Center at 7.

Additional items including keychains, T-shirts and hats provided by Stern Pinball and Raw Thrills will also be given to competitors.

Players will be split into three age brackets (6 and under, 7-11, and 12 and up), who will compete in two games: Stern Pinball’s new The Avengers-inspired table and Raw Thrills’ Winter X-Games Snocross racing game.

“We are excited to co-host the … challenge at the Sandy Hook Arcade Center,” Stern Pinball Chairman and CEO Gary Stern said in a press statement. “Stern is honored to support this arcade and the families of the Newtown community.”

The Sandy Hook Arcade Center was established by Newtown residents Andrew Clure and Scott Cicciari earlier this year as a venue for families to play video games together in a positive space. All game attractions in the arcade — including about two dozen pinball tables and arcade machines as well as two Xbox 360 consoles — are free for Newtown residents. The arcade is open to the public; donations are requested from non-residents. All donations are put towards the upkeep of the center.

Mr Clure and Mr Cicciari plan to continue operating the arcade until April 30.
