Catherine Lee Blomberg, a resident of Newtown for more than 50 years, retired mechanical and CAD/CAM draftsman, skilled watercolorist, avid reader, and enthusiastic traveler, died peacefully July 4 at The Kent Residence in Kent. She was born into a coal mining family in Olyphant, Penn., November 26, 1924, the daughter of Michael and Dora Sawayda Dyki.
Richard William Miller, 89, of Brookfield, beloved husband of Jaqueline (Hill) Miller, died July 5 at Bethel Healthcare. He was born February 7, 1925, in Danbury, son of Edna May (Venning) and Raymond A. Miller.
Margaret (Swanberg) Couch, 77, of New Milford died peacefully July 7, in The Kent, after a long illness. She was born in Waterbury, Conn., and spent her life in the New Milford and Washington, Conn., area.
James “Jimmy,” “Jimbo” Dean McHatten, 53, of Sandy Hook, died June 28. He was born June 13, 1961, in Danbury. Mr McHatten was a graduate of Newtown High School and attended Southern University. An avid sportsman who enjoyed both playing and watching sports, he was a superfan of his beloved Red Sox, Lakers, and Vikings.
Geraldine “Gerri” Cornell, 73, of Hayes, Va., died peacefully June 30, with family by her side, at the Hospice House of Williamsburg, Va. Ms Cornell was a native of Connecticut and retired from a long career at Pitney Bowes.She was a member of Newtown United Methodist Church, Sandy Hook, and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star.
James A. Connelly, Jr, 44, of the Westville section of New Haven, formerly of Newtown, died peacefully at his home July 2, with his faithful German shepherd, Maggie, by his side. He was born in Bridgeport, December 15, 1969.
Geraldine “Gerri” (Oberg) Cornell, 73, died peacefully with family by her side on June 30, at the Hospice House of Williamsburg, Va. Among her survivors is a daughter and son-in law, Tracy and Brian Kean of Newtown. She is also survived by another daughter, Rebecca Slattery, and her husband William of Gloucester, Va., and a son, David Cornell, and his wife JoAnne, of Bethel; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanne Granniss; a brother, Richard Oberg; a host of nieces and nephews, and her canine companions, Cricket and KC. Funeral services, to be officiated by the Reverend Mel Kawakami, will be held at 11 am Friday, July 11, at Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook, with interment to follow in Zoar Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 10, from 4 until 7 pm, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown.
