Clare (Franklin) Cosgrove, 95, of Newtown, died September 28, at Pope John Paul II Care and Rehabilitation Center, Danbury. She was born in Cloonalaghan-Lacken, Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland, February 17, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Catherine (Collins) Franklin, and the wife of the late Michael Cosgrove.
Mary Jo Smith, 72, of Lake Almanor, Calif., died peacefully September 22, with her family at her side, after battling cancer for one year. She was born September 30, 1940, in Santa Ana, Calif., one of five children born to Wayne R. and Margaret C. Crowther. Among her survivors is her husband of 50 years, Newtown native Ted Smith; a brother-in-law, R. Scudder Smith and his wife Helen, and a sister-in-law, Mary Starr "Skippy" Smith, all of Newtown.
Arthur Hilario, Sr, 86, longtime owner of Hilario’s Service Center on Mt Pleasant Road in Newtown, died peacefully in his home, September 21. He was born December 1, 1926, in New Bedford, Mass., son of Abilio A. Hilario and Germana Moura Hilario.
Sabrina Marie Valente, 36, of Rochester, N.H., died unexpectedly, September 19, in Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H. She was born in Danbury, March 21, 1977, a daughter of Thomas and Barbara (Lednar) Valente of Sandy Hook.
Matthew T. Farrell, Jr, 58, died September 7, in Saint Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport, surrounded by his family and friends. Born June 28, 1955, he was formerly of Stratford and a resident of Monroe for the last 31 years.
