CT United Ride To Roll Through Town Early Sunday Afternoon
The 2010 CT United Ride will take place Sunday, August 29. In what is believed to be the largest 9/11 tribute in the state, motorcycles will have a police escort along a route that will for the tenth year leave from Norden Park in Norwalk, wind its way through 11 towns – including Newtown – and continue to Bridgeport, concluding at Seaside Park. The police escort for the riders and passengers means traffic from any side road along the route when the group is passing through each town will be held on their side road while al bikes are passing, which in the past has been as long as 30 minutes.

A Cool Controlled Look At A Potentially Hot And Explosive Threat
On January 30, 2007, four people were killed and five others were seriously injured when propane vapors from a storage tank ignited and exploded at The Little General, a convenience store and gas station in Ghent, W.Va. A series of preventable mistakes leading up to the explosion may have increased the number of fatalities and injuries. Proper training for propane technicians and emergency responders involved in the Ghent tragedy may have lessened the level of tragedy.

When Jean and Lincoln Sander bought the house at 211 Walnut Tree Hill Road in late 2002, he got the antique house he wanted and she had space to establish a new garden. It took a few years before Jean decided to establish a garden, but what she has done with the property in the past five years is nothing short of spectacular.

Some sang. Some played piano solos. Others offered instrumental trios. There was poetry, a pair of slide shows, and even some comedy last Friday afternoon, all part of a talent show that served as a fundraiser for a school in earthquake-stricken Haiti.

Sydney Eddison has lived in her home for 50 years. She has done all the things a person does while spending such an extended time in a single home, both happy and sad. A Finale That Will Hopefully Be The First Of Many Full Seasons
Newtown Cultural Arts Commission (NCAC) presented the season finale of its lunchtime theater presentations in collaboration with Play With Your Food last week and I for one hope that it was just that: just the finale of the first season. The three programs of 2009-10 — one each in December and February, and then last week’s offering — all followed a well-established pattern of 30 minutes for lunch, the performances, and, as time allowed, a question and answer session with the performers and directors.

The new ice cream being introduced this year — vanilla, chocolate, chocolate chocolate chip, mint chocolate chip, strawberry, cookies and cream, black raspberry chocolate chip, peanut butter cup, cherry vanilla, and coffee — were initially missing something almost as important as their key ingredient, however: Names.
