  • Llodra Now Calling For Release Of 911 Tapes

    (AP) First Selectman Pat Llodra has called on state prosecutors to release recordings of 911 calls from the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.

    She told Hearst Connecticut Newspapers that releasing the recordings will end leaks to media outlets that she says are painful to family members and Newtown officials. She compared the leaks to Chinese water torture.

  • Fire Potential: Red Flag Warning, Wind Advisory Issued For Sunday

    The National Weather Service (NWS) in New York has issued a Red Flag Warning for southern Connecticut, including Fairfield County, and Long Island from 10 am to 6 pm Sunday. The weather service has also issued a Wind Advisory for the same area for Sunday from 6 am to 6 pm.

    With the Red Flag Warning, sustained wind speeds will frequently be 25-30 mph in combination with relative humidity values around 25%. 

  • Time To Fill The Fire Trucks

    Members of all five of Newtown’s fire companies will be outside two of the town’s food markets this weekend, collecting donations for FAITH Food Pantry.

    The 13th Annual Fill The Fire Truck Food Drive will take place Saturday, November 23, from 9 am to 2 pm. Members of Hawleyville, Hook & Ladder and Sandy Hook companies will be outside Big Y, at 6 Queen Street; while Botsford and Dodgingtown will be stationed outside Stop & Shop, in Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street.

    Truck Hits Tree

    Police report that truck driver Tyler Fairchild 25, of Northfield was driving an International 4300 box truck northeastward on Pond Brook Road, near Lake George Road, about 12:48 pm on November 13, when he slowed down due to a large vehicle that was approaching him from the opposite direction.

    While the International was passing by the other vehicle, the International struck a large tree limb that was hanging over the roadway, police report.

     Thursday, November 14: 3:27 pm, motor vehicle accident, near 182 Berkshire Road, Sandy Hook responded.

    Friday, November 15: 10:57 am, investigation, near intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Pocono Road, Hawleyville responded; 10:17 pm, burning odor outdoors, near 2 King Philip Trail, Sandy Hook responded.

  • Superintendent’s Letter Anticipates 12/14 Report Release

    Interim Superintendent of Schools John Reed sent a letter home to district parents on Tuesday, November 19, in advance of an anticipated release of an investigatory report on the shootings of 12/14 at Sandy Hook School.

    The report is expected to be released on Monday, November 25, according to notifications received by local officials. Further details on the report are available here.

    The long-awaited investigatory report on the 12/14 shootings at Sandy Hook School, in which 20 first-graders and six adults died, is expected to be released on Monday, November 25, according to notifications received by local officials.

    That report had been expected to be disclosed earlier this year, but its author, State’s Attorney Stephen J. Sedensky III, repeatedly has said that the release of details of the investigation would have to await the completion of the full report
