  • PBSC Gets Update On SHS Remediation, Demolition Plans

    Robert Mitchell, chairman of the Newtown Public Building and Site Commission (PBSC), said his panel heard and discussed new information regarding the ongoing remediation and demolition plans for Sandy Hook School during a meeting held on October 22. Speaking to The Newtown Bee following the meeting, Mr Mitchell said preliminary demolition was set to commence on Thursday, October 24.

  • Police Reports October 9 - 20, 2013

    DUI Incident

    Police said that at about 1:35 am on October 11, they received a report that an erratically driven vehicle may have been involved in an accident on Appleblossom Lane, so they went to that area to investigate. Appleblossom Lane is a side street off South Main Street.

  • Police Explorers Seeking To Expand Membership

    Newtown Police Explorer Post #823 is seeking to enlist new members.

    The post is an organization affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, which has as its members males and females from ages 13 through 21 who are interested in law enforcement, providing assistance for the Newtown Police Department.

  • BOS Approve Grant To Repurpose FFH Duplex For Parent Connection

    "We're off and running!"

    That was the closing comment from First Selectman Pat Llodra after the Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a $500,000 funding resolution, that upon final acceptance, will activate grant funding to re-purpose a vacant duplex at Fairfield Hills for the Newtown Parent Connection.

  • Veterans Invited To NHS For Luncheon & Assembly

    Newtown High School will once again host a Veterans Day Assembly on Monday, November 11. The event will begin with a luncheon at 11 am, followed by an assembly at noon.

    The event is to recognize and to thank men and women who have served or are presently serving the country.

    All Newtown veterans are cordially invited to attend the luncheon and the assembly.

    The family of Ana Grace Márquez-Greene launched the Ana Grace Project of Klingberg Family Centers on October 22, to honor their daughter’s life that ended at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. The project’s mission is to promote love, connection, and community for every child and family.

    Glancing around the historic Edmond Town Hall lobby where voices echoed during a brief meet-and-greet on Tuesday, October 22, incumbent Board of Education Secretary Kathryn Hamilton considered other prospective and incumbent candidates. “We’re all good; any combination of us would be good,” she observed.

  • Walls Begin To Go Up At New Ambulance Facility

    “Concrete block walls are going up” at the new ambulance garage site, said Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps board member Bruce Herring.

    As of Wednesday, October 16, the concrete slab for the new construction’s living area had been poured, and the slab for the garage portion of the two-story, six-bay ambulance facility at Fairfield Hills will “hopefully” be poured in coming days.
