  • Police Investigate Threat Of Violence Against NHS

    Police said Monday, April 20, they are continuing their criminal investigation into a reported threat of violence against Newtown High School, interviewing multiple suspects and multiple witnesses in seeking to learn more. The particular nature of that threat was unclear.

    Police Sergeant Aaron Bahamonde said, “We are actively pursuing all leads, and several officers are part of this investigation.”

    Six Felonies

    Police said they charged William Bruno, 45, of Newtown on a warrant at Danbury Superior Court on April 6, lodging four counts of violation of a protective order and two counts of criminal attempt to violate a protective order. All six charges are felonies

    Bruno was arraigned in court that day and pleaded not guilty to all six charges. The six crimes allegedly occurred in May 2014.

    Escalade Vs Civic

    Police report a two-vehicle accident on southbound Main Street, near the flagpole intersection, at about 4 pm on March 28.

    Police said that motorist Michael Maddox, 44, of 39 Alpine Circle, who was driving a 2009 Cadillac Escalade SUV, struck the rear end of a 2005 Honda Civic sedan driven by Kelsey Rahmlow, 21, of 27 Bridge End Farm Lane. Police said that Maddox then drove away from the accident scene. There were no injuries.

    Identity Theft

    Police report they arrested Franklin Reyes, 25, of Danbury on a warrant on the morning of March 8, lodging charges of second-degree identity theft and second-degree larceny.

    The charges stem from a 2014 incident in which Reyes allegedly fraudulently used the personal information of a Newtown resident to obtain a store credit card at an area furniture store, police said. About $3,000 worth of goods were then fraudulently billed to the victim of the crime, police said.

    Huntingtown DUI

    Police said they responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Huntingtown Road, near its intersection with Brushy Hill Road, at about 10 am on February 12.

    Police said that motorist Michael L. Burton, Jr, 19, of 20 Washington Avenue was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer SUV on Huntingtown Road, when it went off the right road shoulder while negotiating a curve in the roadway.

    Shoplifting Incident

    Police report that at about 2:48 pm on January 28, they received a complaint from Walgreens Pharmacy at 49 South Main Street, stating that a shoplifting incident had occurred, so they responded to investigate.

    After receiving a description of the person who allegedly had stolen store merchandise and the sedan in which he was traveling, police briefly searched for the man, stopping the vehicle in question near 137 South Main Street, about 1.3 miles south of the pharmacy.

    Evading Responsibility

    Police report that while on patrol in Dodgingtown about 2:35 am on January 20, they spotted a utility pole near 3 Hattertown Road that had been struck by a vehicle and had fallen down, bringing down with it some utility lines.

    I-84 DUI

    State police report that at about 3:35 am on January 18, they spotted motorist Melissa Toon, 35, of New Haven driving on eastbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 9 interchange, but failing to stay in her travel lane, so they stopped her to investigate.

    State police said they arrested Toon on charges of driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and two vehicular-document charges.

    Sugar Street Crash

    Police report that motorist Angela Evertez, 40, of 47 Poverty Hollow Road was driving a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV westward on Sugar Street, near its intersection with Head O’ Meadow Road, about 2:11 pm on January 3, as motorist Maura Curry, 57, of Redding was driving a 2012 Jeep Wrangler SUV eastward there.
