Police report they stopped motorist Boris Zilbershteyn, 52, of Brookfield near the intersection of South Main Street and Prospect Drive at about 9 pm on August 31 for driving violations.
Police said they charged Zilbershteyn with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and making a restricted turn.
Zilbershteyn was released on bail for a September 13 court appearance, police said.

Bit by bit, piece by piece, police and a group of volunteers are separately seeking to assemble a jigsaw puzzle of sorts that would point the way to the missing Robert “Hoagy” Hoagland, 50, of Glen Road, Sandy Hook, a man who went missing from his home in late July and has not been heard from since.
On Sunday, September 1, police, working with Newtown Underwater Search And Rescue (NUSAR) and the Lake Zoar Authority Marine Patrol, searched a section of Lake Zoar upriver of the Rochambeau Bridge in seeking any evidence of Mr Hoagland.

As a police search for a missing local man moved through its fifth week, the man’s wife said his disappearance presents a situation that is “very scary, tricky, bad, mysterious.”
Lori Hoagland of Glen Road in Sandy Hook said this week that she and others are “perplexed” by her husband Robert “Hoagy” Hoagland’s disappearance. Mr Hoagland, 50, was last seen on Sunday, July 28, at his home.

On August 24, police said that they are investigating multiple vandalism incidents that had occurred during the preceding two weeks in the area of Hawthorne Hill Road/Saw Mill Ridge Road.
That property damage involved someone using spray paint to deface multiple vehicles and driveways.
Also, police said that overnight on August 23-24, someone using black spray paint defaced two vehicles that were parked near the Hawthorne Hill Road turnaround circle.

Newtown police this week continued seeking to find a missing man, Robert Hoagland, 50, of Sandy Hook, who was last seen inside the convenience store at the Mobil gas station at 62 Church Hill Road at about 5:30 am on Sunday, July 28.
Police said on Thursday, August 22, that they have been unable to locate the man.
Mr Hoagland is white, 6 feet tall, and weighs 175 pounds. He is bald and has blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and khaki shorts.

Police report a vandalism spree happened during the early morning hours of Sunday, August 18, when someone intentionally damaged motor vehicles that were either parked in driveways or parked on roads near homes in Sandy Hook.
Police received the first call about vehicular vandalism from a Founders Lane resident at 3:11 am Sunday.
Other areas where such vandalism occurred include Far Horizon Drive, Bennetts Bridge Road, Charter Ridge Drive, Paugussett Road, Jeremiah Road, and Clapboard Ridge Road, police said.

Police report that a local man died early Thursday morning from injuries he received late Wednesday night in a one-car accident that occurred on Brushy Hill Road, about 1,000 feet south of its intersection with Platts Hill Road.
Police said that motorist Gregory Layda, 45, of Mt Nebo Road was driving a four-door 1997 Subaru Impreza compact car northward on Brushy Hill Road at about 10:12 pm on Wednesday.

Newtown police on Wednesday continued their probe into a reported “home invasion” on Tuesday morning at a house on Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook, located near the Exit 11 overpasses of Interstate 84. Police were tight-lipped on the case, providing little additional information on the incident, which occurred at 31 Berkshire Road.

Four MV Charges
After learning that Newtown Police held a warrant against him, Robert Zielinski, 26, of Waterbury went to the police station at about 4:20 pm on August 1 and was then charged with making a restricted turn, misuse of marker plates, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to have automotive insurance, police said.

Police report they continue to hold a found knife for safekeeping.
The folding-style pocket knife was found on Canterbury Lane in Sandy Hook on April 15, police said. Canterbury Lane extends from Charter Ridge Road. The owner may contact police at 3 Main Street to claim the item.
