RIDGEFIELD — In an interview ahead of his Ridgefield Playhouse show June 10, highly respected and award-winning blues artist Matt Schofield said after nearly 25 years in the business, it’s still incomprehensible when he is aligned beside fellow British players like Eric Clapton and Peter Green
But all humility aside, Schofield told The Newtown Bee he is excited to be able to thrill true blues fans and newcomers alike, exposing his audiences to the “irreplaceable joy of live music."

The Propane Education & Research Council and Food Network personality Sunny Anderson have debuted a new cookbook, The Grilling for Heroes Cookbook: Sizzling Recipes for Your Propane Grill, to raise money for wounded veterans.

The pool at Newtown High School, which is open on a limited schedule for public use, has closed for the season.
In place of the indoor swimming option, however, Newtown Parks & Recreation has announced that Treadwell Pool and Eichler’s Cove Beach will both open for the season on Saturday, May 23.
The pool, located within the park at 39 Philo Curtis Road, and the beach, at the end of Old Bridge Road, share the same hours all season.

Congratulations to the “Sandy Hook Fredericks Clan.” Sawyer Fredericks, nephew of Bonnie Fredericks, owner of Sandy Hook Hair Co, was named the new champion on NBC’s The Voice Tuesday night. Bonnie hosted a number of The Voice viewing parties this past season, in support of him, at the VFW. Sawyer spent his early years here in Newtown, in case you want to puff up with a little pride. I’m sure all of his local relatives and friends are already doing so!

Occupation: I am a clerk at Queen Street Cleaners, in the Big Y plaza. I’ve been working here for about ten years. I was as dog groomer for 23 years. It was dirty work, but I loved those animals.
Family: My son, Joseph, was a Danbury Police Officer for 15 years. He is married to Brenda. I have three grandchildren, Jonah, 20; Raquel, 18; and David, 16. I have an older brother in North Carolina, too.

With her voice filling Newtown Congregational Church and her fingers drifting across piano keys, special guest and YouTube sensation Jodi DiPiazza performed “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” Saturday, May 16. She and others came together for a benefit concert, “Celebrating Movie Music,” to raise funds for Families United in Newtown (FUN), which resident Linda Jones established in 2008 to offer recreational programs and respite for families with special needs children like her late son Tyler, who was a non-verbal child with autism.

BROOKFIELD — The Brookfield Theatre of the Arts production of Godspell rocks, literally. This performance of an updated version of the original, which was conceived and directed by John Michael Tebelar, with music and lyrics by Steven Schwartz, has been blessed with an incredibly energetic and talented cast which is being imaginatively directed by Mensah Robinson, making his directorial debut with this vibrant creation.
