  • St Rose Bingo Night April 12

    The next St Rose Friday Bingo Night for the 2012-13 season will be on April 12.

    Games are played in the Gathering Hall of St Rose, at 46 Church Hill Road. Doors open at 5:45, and games run from 6:30 until around 9:30.

    Designed for the Bingo enthusiast, evenings feature substantial cash prizes for all games, as well as door prizes. Dinner items and homemade baked goods are available for purchase, and free coffee is served.

    Admission is $17 per person, which covers all regular and some special games.

  • "Placing Your Heritage In Historical Perspective," Next For Genealogy Club

    The April meeting of the Newtown Genealogy Club will be held in the meeting room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, on Wednesday, April 10, beginning at 7 pm.

    This month’s guest speaker is Laura G. Prescott.  She is a professional researcher, writer and speaker.

    Originally from Charleston, W.V., she has lived in New England for over 35 years.  Before starting her own research business in 2005, she worked for the New England Historical Genealogical Society for 7 years.

    Richard Louv will present the program “Peace And The Natural World: The Restorative Power of Nature Where We Live, Work, Learn and Play” twice on April 5, offering early afternoon and evening options for residents.

  • Armstrong & Race Car To Make A Stop At VFW

    Kyle Armstrong will be bringing his dirt modified big block race car to the VFW in Newtown on Sunday, April 7, at 2 pm. The public is invited to see the car and enjoy refreshments at the VFW.

  • Parade Committee Sees That Newtown Marches On

    The Irish melodies played by bands nationwide in St Patrick's Day parades are still swirling on the currents, but it is not too early to start thinking about a parade that is near and dear to the hearts of so many: The 52nd annual Newtown Labor Day Parade.

    Newtown Labor Day Parade President Beth Caldwell and committee members Robin Buchanan, Andy Cluff, Dan Cruson, Ellie Whalen, Stacey Olszewski, Betsy Kenyon, Kym Stendahl, Kelly Stendahl, Steve Bigham, and Tom D’Agastino began meeting in January to plan the September 2 event.

  • Easter Egg Hunt At Treadwell Park, Saturday: The Real Meaning Of Easter, And Some Fun

    Grace Family Church (formerly Grace Christian Fellowship) will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 30, at Treadwell Park. Children up to age 12 are invited; groups have been traditionall divided by age for the egg hunts. Shown here are 10-to 12-year-olds racing toward the Easter eggs when it was their turn during the 2012 event. Saturday's event will run from 1 to 3 pm and will include a puppet show, games, and a visit from the Easter Bunny with a message about the true meaning of Easter, all leading to the big egg hunts.

    Lynn Kovack of the Building Department is grateful and thrilled that certain items inadvertently removed from the Newtown Municipal Center in February have been returned. The charcoal drawings of victims of 12/14 and a special quilt are in the hands of the families who had requested them, so thank you to those who heeded Lynn’s plea.

    Occupation: I’m a nurse in the intensive care unit at Danbury Hospital. I’ve been there on and off since 1989, and have worked on the intensive care unit for about six years.

    Family: My husband Adam and I have been married for seven years. I have two children, Madeleine is 20, and at the University of Tampa. Lauren is 17 and a senior at Newtown High School.
