Four members of the Young Adult Council of C.H. Booth Library and seven community members met Monday, March 31, with consultants from the Connecticut State Library to provide input regarding the selection of a new director for the library.
Dawn LaValle, director of the Division of Library Development, and Mary Engels, director of the Middletown Library Service Center, facilitated the afternoon meeting for the young people, and the evening meeting that was open to the public.

Calling young authors: The Booth Library Creative Writing Group for Young Adults will offer Fiction this winter.
Students in grades 6-8 who love to write will be led by Wally Wood, teacher, author and Newtown resident, with assistance from Linda Strange, a committed volunteer assistant in the Creative Writing program and teacher in Waterbury. All sessions will allow time for writing and sharing short stories in progress as well as one-on-one communication between adults and young people.

C.H. Booth Library will host The Chickadee Spirit Story Time on Saturday, December 28, at 2 pm.
The program had originally been planned for December 14, but needed to be postponed due to the snowstorm last weekend.

To the Editor:
Last weekend the Friends of the C.H. Booth Library sponsored the annual Holiday Sale, making gift-quality books, media and other items available at reasonable cost in time for holiday giving. Our thanks go the patrons of the sale and to the wonderful volunteers who make the sale a high point of the season.

Focus groups, along with comments from Booth Library board members, staff, members of the Friends of the C.H. Booth Library, and the public have provided a look at what residents and regular library visitors want to see left alone, as well as what they hope or expect to see changed in the future for the Main Street institution.

An exhibition of art by students of Rick Daskam has opened at Cyrenius H. Booth Library, and will remain on view until May 31 during regular library hours.
For several years, the Society of Creative Arts in Newtown (SCAN) has offered daytime oil painting classes taught by well-known local artist Rick Daskam. Still life oil paintings created in class by some of Mr Daskam’s past and current students are on exhibit in the library’s community room.

To the community members and families of Newtown, artists of all ages and abilities, Regina’s Art Center will continue instructional and creative art classes at Cyrenius H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, on Thursday, May 2, from 4 to 6 pm. Everyone is welcome to join art center founder Regina Rayzvikh for an innovative and unique two-hour session in the library’s Story Time Room.

On Thursday, April 18, Regina Rayzvikh, president and founder of Regina’s Art Center, is scheduled to deliver a two hour instructional and creative art workshop for families of Newtown. The event will take place in the Children’s Story Time room at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.
