Four men with direct ties to Sandy Hook, including one current and two former residents, drove to Moore, Okla., within days of a fatal EF5 tornado. “We had an immense amount of love pour into our town in December, and it continues to show up,” said Peter Baressi, second from right. “We need to not feel helpless. We need to share it,” he said, explaining why he and three friends drove 36 hours to deliver two trailers filled with supplies for those affected by the May 20 twister.

HARTFORD (AP) — Connecticut's Freedom of Information Commission has ordered Newtown officials to provide the commission with 911 calls from the day of the shooting inside Sandy Hook Elementary School as it considers a request by The Associated Press.
A hearing officer, Kathleen Ross, asked Monday for the town to provide her the copies within two weeks. She said she commission would weigh objections raised by investigators as it evaluates whether the material should be released publicly.

Volunteers from New York Life Insurance, which had subsidized the costs for the majority of hearts that were painted in Newtown, joined the group on May 15.

The US Department of Education announced on Friday, May 24, it is awarding more than $1.3 million to Newtown Public School District to help with ongoing recovery efforts following the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School on 12/14. This grant, which is being made through the Department's Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) program, will support school district leaders as they continue to restore a safe and healthy environment that is critical to teaching and learning.

St John’s Episcopal Church will have its Donut Stop, with just-cooked donuts served during the first hours of The Great Pootatuck Duck Race, on Saturday, May 25. The church is at 5 Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook, and the sale will run from 9 am until noon, or while supplies last.
