    During a Sunday morning service that was filled with activity, this young parishioner at Newtown United Methodist Church seems to have found himself lifted in prayer. The 10 am worship service on April 28 included the welcoming of new members to the Sandy Hook church, the presentation of new devotionals for first responders, and — going on in the background — the blessing of NUMC church members who will be heading to Haiti this weekend.

    The dispatchers at the Newtown Emergency Communications Center at Town Hall South report the following fire calls and the responders:

    Thursday, April 25: 9 am, alarm, 139 Toddy Hill Road, Botsford, Sandy Hook, and Hook & Ladder responded; 4:08 pm, motor vehicle accident, near 44 Berkshire Road, Sandy Hook responded; 5:18 pm, investigation, 44 Berkshire Road, Sandy Hook responded.

  • Green Ribbon Ride: Major Motorcycling Event Planned For Sunday, May 5

    Newtown’s five fire companies are coordinating efforts to present The Green Ribbon Ride, a motorcycle ride on Sunday, May 5, that will raise money for a number of local funds. The police-escorted ride, according to organizers, will be done “to remember and honor Newtown’s 26 angels.”

  • Save The Christmas Tree

    To the Editor:

    Sometimes a tree is more than just tree. The Sandy Hook Christmas Tree is a powerful symbol in our community.  It has been a gathering place in times of joy and sadly in times of great sorrow. The Sandy Hook Christmas Tree stood with us and accepted the outpouring of grief from the community and from the world during our most difficult days.  We owe that tree.

  • Major Motorcycling Event Will Affect Sunday Traffic

    On Sunday, May 5, The Green Ribbon Ride, a motorcycling event, will pass through Newtown.

    The event is a police-escorted motorcycle ride to raise funds for a variety of funds and charities associated with the events of 12/14.
