Vancouver-based vocalist, pianist, and songwriter Robyn McCorquodale is among those around the world who was “rocked by the mass shooting and loss of 20 first-graders and six educators. An unimaginable assault on beautiful human life,” she said.
In response, she has written and recorded a single, “Garden of Angels,” that is available as a digital download from iTunes and CD Baby. Proceeds from the song’s sale will be donated to Sandy Hook Promise.

Parent. It is a noun, and it is a verb, pointed out Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) Communications Director Nicole Hockley and Advocacy Director Mark Barden, and it is the action form of that verb that is the thrust of the new SHP program, Parent Together. The initiative was rolled out Thursday, November 14, exactly eleven months after the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Both Ms Hockley and Mr Barden lost children, Dylan and Daniel, on 12/14.

Both the great problems and the great blessings of the world are myriad. The alchemy of transmuting the former into the latter seems to cost us nearly all of our political capital these days — an investment we claim to make in the name of progress. But as we have seen in the past 11 months, the great problem of gun violence and the renewed debate over it sparked by the 12/14 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School has not blessed us with progress or even a semblance of serious dialogue on the issue.

Sandy Hook Promise has announced the launch of Parent Together, a national grassroots campaign to educate and empower parents to prevent gun violence in their communities. Emphasizing mental wellness, connection to community and gun safety, the campaign will bring parents together around their common love for all children to help prevent not just the next Sandy Hook tragedy, but also thousands of other acts of gun violence every year.

(AP) A nonprofit group in Newtown that has worked with families who lost relatives in the school shooting last year on tougher gun laws says the recall of two lawmakers in Colorado does not diminish public support for such measures.
Two Democratic state lawmakers who backed tighter gun laws in the aftermath of mass shootings have been kicked out of office.

Sandy Hook Promise, the nonprofit support and advocacy group founded to support the community post 12/14, will host “Why Sleep Quality Is More Important Than Sleep Quantity,” on Tuesday, September 3, from 5 to 7 pm, in the Lecture Hall of Newtown High School.
Led by board certified sleep specialist Dr Barry Krakow, the workshop will focus on how the quality of sleep impacts daily life and the steps one can take to address mental and emotional causes of insomnia.

Five Scout’s Angels service dogs wagged their tails outside The Villa restaurant Tuesday afternoon, August 13. They watched as people crossed the parking lot. The dogs and handlers, visiting Newtown from Denver to bring comfort to the community, soon met guests at an outdoor patio.
