The advantage to being a cat is that I have no pockets or backpack from which things can fall out. Not everyone is so lucky. I understand Newtown Parks & Recreation has some items waiting to be claimed. A pair of children’s baseball gloves, some glasses, and bracelets have been found at Newtown fields and parks in recent months. The start of summer camp for local children in the Newtown Parks & Recreation day camps at Dickinson Memorial Park and Treadwell Park was on June 22, the day after summer officially began.
Sara Edgerton and Trevor Ferraro are the site directors at Treadwell Park and Leah Pizighelli is the site director at Dickinson Park. All three site directors agreed that the first week of camp went well, saying that the highlight of the week was the combined field trip to Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury.

For students who attended Newtown Parks & Recreation day camps at Dickinson Memorial Park or at Treadwell Park, the summer concluded on Friday, August 8, with a talent show that combined both day camps.
“It was great just seeing what they can come with,” said Newtown Parks & Recreation Assistant Director RoseAnn Reggiano, about the talent show.

The performers for the 2014 Summer Concert Series, hosted by Newtown Parks & Recreation and sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank, have been posted on the Parks & Rec website.
The 6th annual concert will return to the bandstand at Dickinson Memorial Park, 50 Elm Street. All shows will begin at 6:30 and end around 8 pm.

A family ice skating party sponsored by Newtown Parks & Recreation for Friday night has been relocated. Instead of the temporary rink at Fairfield Hills, the February 7 event has been moved to the Dickinson Park pavilion rink.
The party which will run from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. DJ Kevin Koschel will provide the music, and there will be a small bonfire.
There is no charge, but reservations are requested so that organizers know how much hot chocolate will be needed.

A $2.2 million budget request for the Parks and Recreation Department represents a 1.1 percent increase for the 2014-15 fiscal year.
Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman Ed Marks, who has spoken with First Selectman Pat Llodra as town budget discussions begin, said this week he believes “she is pleased with what we have submitted so far,” but is prepared to reduce the 1.1 percent as the funding request goes before town boards prior to a referendum.
