Parents can never be sure how their children will react to their first day of kindergarten. Some children hop on the bus without hesitation, and maybe slow down long enough to give a wave to their anxious parents before starting a new adventure with future friends. Others will cling, or cry, or worse, making the first day difficult for everyone involved.

Newtown Youth & Family Services has partnered with The Caroline Previdi Foundation to offer financial support to families whose children may not otherwise be able to participate in select extracurricular activities.
The foundation was created in memory of Caroline Previdi, one of the children killed on 12/14. Its goal is to support children in Newtown and surrounding communities with the financial means to participate in activities, including, but not limited to dance camp, art classes, and music lessons.

Newtown Youth & Family Services (NYFS) is joining together with the town of Newtown, the school district, the interfaith community and municipal organizations in observance of the first anniversary of 12/14.
“Our community is choosing to remember and honor those who lost their lives in that awful tragedy in ways that are quiet, personal, and respectful – centered on themes of kindness and service to others,” First Selectman Pat Llodra said on her blog.

Adults grieving the death of a loved one are invited to attend a support group at Newtown Youth & Family Services. The group is being offered by the award-winning Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families, a program of Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut.
