Despite some assertions on social media, rumors that the town is planning to acquire NYA Sports & Fitness Center at Fairfield Hills with $10 million earmarked in the Capital Improvement Plan are simply that — rumors — according to First Selectman Pat Llodra.
On November 29, Democratic Registrar of Voters and Commission on Aging member LeReine Frampton posted on Facebook that the town “is buying it for 10 million.”

NYA Sports & Fitness Center, in partnership with Newtown Savings Bank and additional support from Sandy Hook Promise, is launching a free, four-week wellness initiative for 40 adult Newtown residents currently struggling to maintain their fitness levels.
The program’s goal is to help Newtown residents achieve a cumulative weight loss of at least 2,560 pounds over the next five years.

On Monday, December 23, NYA Sports & Fitness Center will open the turf, courts and bounce house, slide and obstacle course to all children — whether residents of Newtown or surrounding towns — from kindergarten through grade 8.
From 8:30 am until 12:30 pm, parents can drop their children into this safe environment for playtime while getting those last minute holiday tasks done.
NYA staff will keep children busy with games and activities.
This is a $10 drop-off fee per child.

NYA Sports & Fitness Center will host its fifth Open Play Day on Friday, October 18. All Newtown children in grades 7-8 are invited to visit NYA between 3 and 4:30 pm; grades 5-6 will have open access from 4:30 to 6 pm; K-4 will have the facility from 6 to 7:30; and high school students will be welcomed from 7:30 until 9 pm.
