Newtown High School’s football team defeated visiting Stratford 34-6 on Senior Night, also the Homecoming Game, at Blue & Gold Stadium, on October 30. The Nighthawk defense, coming off a shutout of Joel Barlow of Redding the week prior, held the Red Devils off the scoreboard until the final seconds to improve to 7-0; Stratford fell to 5-2.

The Stratford Board of Education appointed Newtown’s Assistant Superintendent of Schools Linda Gejda for its new assistant superintendent during a meeting on Monday, April 27.
Dr Gejda responded to the news on Wednesday, April 29, saying the decision, “was a very difficult one for me. Newtown is obviously a very special community… very supportive of its school district… and I’ve been extremely privileged to work with skilled individuals…”

The Nighthawks seem to have opponents right where they want them when trailing. Newtown High School’s boys’ basketball team has made a habit of erasing large deficits to scratch out close victories this season, the latest a 49-45 win over visiting Stratford on February 11.
Newtown trailed by six points at halftime and but eked out the win to improve to 10-6 overall and 8-2 in South-West Conference play.

Newtown’s departing School Superintendent Janet Robinson will begin her new job in Stratford no later than July 1, according to her new contract, which was provided to The Bee following a Freedom of Information request. The contract also affirms that Stratford will be compensating Dr Robinson at a rate significantly higher than what Stratford’s interim superintendent apparently earned, but less than the same individual earned when she was the contracted superintendent.

Two days after Superintendent of School Janet Robinson dispatched an e-mail to Newtown’s Board of Education stating the Stratford school board was poised to offer her that district’s top seat, she was offered the position. According to a report from a regional cable news network, Dr Robinson accepted the position following a unanimous vote of the Stratford board.
